Maryam Mamou has extensive experience in wound care. She is a graduate of the wound ostomy and continence program at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, and is nationally certified in wound and continence care. She has worked in clinical settings including acute care rehabilitation, home health care, long-term care, and outpatient wound care, where the majority of her patients were being treated for diabetic foot ulcers. She has been involved in developing and implementing staff education programs, and she is currently employed as a nurse consultant with the State of Wisconsin.

RELATED PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES

Created and implemented a variety of educational programs to improve the quality of patient care:

  • Initiated and conducted a weekly workshop on various aspects of home health care for Nursing Attendants. Also initiated the grading of attendants to better match them with patient care acuity.
  • Developed and presented a weekly series of educational lectures for the patients in the Rehabilitation Unit at Heights Hospital. These covered such topics as Pain Management, Quality of Life Issues, Medication Safety, etc.
  • Planned, developed, and conducted a one-day workshop for the hospital’s education department on “The Role of Nursing in Rehabilitation Care.”
  • Along with the Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapy Departments, created and presented educational programs on the importance of an interdisciplinary approach to rehabilitation care.
