FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Comptche, CA – Wild Iris Medical Education, Inc., a company providing online continuing education for healthcare professionals, recently received national certification as a Women’s Business Enterprise by the Astra Women’s Business Alliance, a regional certifying partner of the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC).

Owned and managed by women continuously since it was founded in 1998, the firm decided after 16 years in business to seek official certification of its women-owned status. WBENC’s national standard of certification is a meticulous process including an in-depth review of the business and a thorough site inspection. The certification process is designed to verify that applicant businesses are majority owned, operated and controlled by a woman or women.

“I am proud to receive this certification on behalf of our company,” said Ann Johnson, co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Wild Iris Medical Education. “Most of the people we serve are women,” she said. “I’m glad we can show those customers that we personally relate to their needs and concerns as female professionals in the American workforce.”

A registered nurse for more than three decades, Johnson has worked in many areas of nursing. Before assuming full-time management of Wild Iris Medical Education, her previous hospital job was Manager of the Emergency Department and Director of the Drug-Free Workplace Program at Ukiah Valley Medical Center in Ukiah, California. She was also a nursing instructor for 5 years at the College of the Redwoods in Fort Bragg, California. Ms. Johnson served as a volunteer fire fighter for 25 years with the Comptche Volunteer Fire Department.

Women-owned businesses are growing at one and a half times the U.S. national average, according to WBENC, and these firms contribute more than a trillion dollars to the U.S. economy, employing nearly 7.9 million people and adding 274,000 jobs since 2007.

Wild Iris Medical Education is a privately-held corporation which began offering online accredited nursing continuing education courses accepted in all 50 US states in 1998. Since that time, the company has expanded its curriculum to provide online continuing education courses for nurse case managers, occupational therapists, physical therapists, paramedics, emergency medical technicians, and other healthcare professionals.

Wild Iris Medical Education holds accreditations and approvals from numerous continuing education oversight agencies, including the American Nurse Credentialing Center, the American Occupational Therapy Association, the Commission for Case Manager Certification, the Physical Therapy Board of California, and others.

The Women’s Business Enterprise National Council is the nation’s largest third party certifier of businesses owned and operated by women in the United States. WBENC is a resource for the more than 700 US companies and government agencies that rely on WBENC’s certification as an integral part of their supplier diversity programs.
