Nursing License CE Requirements
CE Requirements for Nursing Licenses
Every two years, the California Nursing Board requires nurses to complete the following continuing education contact hours to comply with licensing requirements:
- 30 contact hours for RN license renewal
- 30 contact hours for LPN license renewal
- 30 contact hours for APRN license renewal
License Expiration and Renewal
Registered Nurse Licenses:
Initial California RN licenses are issued for two birthdays - not two years - and will expire the last day of the month following your birth date. From that date on, it will expire every two years, if renewed timely.
Licensed Practical Nurse Licenses:
Initial California LPN licenses are issued for two birthdays - not two years - and will expire the last day of the month following your birth date. From that date on, it will expire every two years, if renewed timely.
Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Licenses:
Initial California APRN licenses are issued for two birthdays - not two years - and will expire the last day of the month following your birth date. From that date on, it will expire every two years, if renewed timely.
