CE Requirements for Nursing Licenses

Every two years, the Hawaii Nursing Board requires nurses to complete the following continuing education contact hours to comply with licensing requirements:

  • 30 contact hours for RN license renewal
  • 30 contact hours for LPN license renewal
  • 30 contact hours for APRN license renewal. APRNs with prescriptive authority are required to submit proof of completion of at least thirty hours of continuing education (8 hours in pharmacology and 22 hours in your practice specialty).

License Expiration and Renewal

Registered Nurse Licenses:

Hawaii RN licenses expire on June 30 in every odd-numbered year.


Licensed Practical Nurse Licenses:

Hawaii LPN licenses expire on June 30 in every odd-numbered year.


Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Licenses:

Hawaii APRN licenses expire in every odd-numbered year; on June 30 for APRN recognition and on December 31 for APRN Rx.
