What are the state license renewal requirements for a nurse in New Mexico?
For registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, and advanced practice registered nurses in the state of New Mexico, there are specific license renewal requirements that the New Mexico Board of Nursing determines. These requirements include courses for RNs, LPNs, and APRNs.

Nursing License CE Requirements
CE Requirements for Nursing Licenses
Every two years, the New Mexico Nursing Board requires nurses to complete the following continuing education contact hours to comply with licensing requirements:
- 30 contact hours for RN license renewal
- 30 contact hours for LPN license renewal
- 50 contact hours for APRN license renewal
Certified nurse practitioners and clinical nurse specialists must complete a total of 50 hours of approved CE each renewal. Thirty contact hours shall meet the requirements for licensure as an RN and an additional twenty contact hours, fifteen of which must be pharmacology and five in the area of practice.

Registered Nurse Licenses:
For New Mexico RNs, the continuing education accrual period aligns with the licensure period. The continuing education accrual period is the first day of the month following your renewal month through the day you renew your license.
Licensed Practical Nurse Licenses:
For New Mexico LPNs, the continuing education accrual period aligns with the licensure period. The continuing education accrual period is the first day of the month following your renewal month through the day you renew your license.
Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Licenses:
For New Mexico APRNs, the continuing education accrual period aligns with the licensure period. The continuing education accrual period is the first day of the month following your renewal month through the day you renew your license.
