Nursing License CE Requirements
CE Requirements for Nursing Licenses
Every three years, the West Virginia Nursing Board requires nurses to complete the following continuing education contact hours to comply with licensing requirements:
- 12 contact hours for RN license renewal
- 24 contact hours for LPN license renewal
- 24 contact hours total: 12 hours in pharmacotherapeutics and 12 hours of clinical management practice for APRN license renewal
An additional 15 hours in pharmacology is required if you have prescriptive authority.
Mandated State Courses
To renew your West Virginia nursing license, you will need to complete continuing education in following topics:
1 contact hour on Best-Practice Prescribing and Drug Diversion Training for West Virginia Nurses (1 Hour) - annually after the initial 3 hour requirement was fulfilled.
3 contact hours on Best-Practice Prescribing and Drug Diversion Training for West Virginia Nurses (3 Hours) - initial requirement.
2 contact hours on mental health conditions common to veterans and family members of veterans:
License Expiration and Renewal
Registered Nurse Licenses:
West Virginia RN licenses expire annually on October 31.
Licensed Practical Nurse Licenses:
West Virginia LPN licenses expire annually on June 30.
Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Licenses:
West Virginia APRN licenses expire annually on October 31.
