CE Requirements for Nursing Licenses

Every two years, the Delaware Nursing Board requires nurses to complete the following continuing education contact hours to comply with licensing requirements:

  • 30 contact hours for RN license renewal
  • 24 contact hours for LPN license renewal
  • 10 contact hours in pharmacology/pharmacotherapeutics for APRNs who have prescriptive authority

Mandated State Courses

To renew your Delaware nursing license, three contact hours must be in the area of:

License Expiration and Renewal

Registered Nurse Licenses:

Delaware RN licenses expire on February 28, May 31, or September 30 of odd-numbered years depending on when your license was originally issued.

All newly issued RN licenses expire on September 30 of odd-numbered years.


Licensed Practical Nurse Licenses:

Delaware LPN licenses expire on February 28 of even-numbered years.


Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Licenses:

Delaware APRN licenses expire on the same date as your Delaware RN license.

If you have prescriptive authority, your prescriptive authority expires at the same time as your license. To renew your prescriptive authority, you must attest to completing ten hours of continuing education (CE) in pharmacology.
