Nursing License CE Requirements
CE Requirements for Nursing Licenses
Every two years, the Pennsylvania Nursing Board requires nurses to complete the following continuing education contact hours to comply with licensing requirements:
- 30 contact hours for RN license renewal
- 30 contact hours for LPN license renewal
- 30 contact hours for APRN license renewal
Mandated State Courses
To renew your Pennsylvania nursing license, two contact hours must be in the area of:
Child Abuse Recognition and Reporting in Pennsylvania - Act 31 (2 Hours): Mandated Reporter Training
For initial Pennsylvania license application, three contact hours must be in the area of:
Child Abuse Recognition and Reporting in Pennsylvania - Act 31 (3 Hours): Mandated Reporter Training

License Expiration and Renewal
Registered Nurse Licenses:
Pennsylvania RN licenses expire by April 30 or October 31 every two years.
Licensed Practical Nurse Licenses:
Pennsylvania LPN licenses for practical nurses expire on June 30 of even-numbered years.
Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Licenses:
Pennsylvania APRN licenses expire on April 30 of odd-numbered years.
