New Jersey License Renewal Information

Nursing CEU Requirements

The New Jersey Board of Nursing requires each licensee (advanced practice nurses, registered nurses, including forensic nurses-CSA, and licensed practical nurses) to complete 30 hours of CE credits during the two-year period preceding renewal.

As a condition of biennial license renewal, all New Jersey registered professional nurses and all licensed practical nurses must complete one hour of continuing education concerning prescription opioid drugs, including alternatives to opioids for managing and treating pain, and the risks and signs of opioid abuse, addiction, and diversion.

New graduates and nurses applying from out-of-state must complete one hour on the following topic:
Organ and Tissue Donation and Recovery for New Jersey Nurses

RN license renewals are May 31 of odd-numbered and even-numbered years based on the date of issuance.
